Walk In My Combat Boots, James Patterson

Walk In My Combat Boots opening lines: “We’re not going to make it.” This from Jackson, the squad leader of my platoon. He’s referring to the forty-plus Humvees on the base in Kuwait, which in 2004 is nothing but a big mess of tents in the middle of the desert.

Walk In My Combat Boots

My blurb:

This collection of short stories covers all area of combat, and deals with life and death situations. The book is divided into sections, including A Call To Duty, In Country and Memorial Day. Read more about the hero’s who have kept their country safe, and what they have really had to deal with, both out of the country and at home.

Walk In My Combat Boots
Written with Matt Eversmann, the decorated war hero immortalised in the film  Black Hawk Down,  James Patterson brings us first hand wartime experiences of life on the battlefront
Soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines speak in their own words about real life in today’s armed forces. These are the brutally honest stories usually only shared amongst comrades in arms. Here, in the voices of the men and women who’ve fought overseas from Vietnam to Iraq and Afghanistan, is a rare eye-opening look into what wearing the uniform, fighting in combat, losing friends and coming home is really like.
Walk in my Combat Boots  is a powerful collection of never-before-told war stories crafted from hundreds of original interviews by James Patterson, the world’s most trusted storyteller, and First Sergeant US Army (Ret.) Matt Eversmann, part of the Ranger unit involved in the infamous Battle of Mogadishu portrayed in the movie Black Hawk Down.
My verdict:

This book is not about the writing quality, or the ability to tell a story well. It is about telling the stories. And all parts of war, the good, the bad and the ugly. A sometimes difficult read but if you enjoy biographies then this one is for you.
