Another Life, Jodie Chapman

Another Life opening lines: It didn’t work the first time. My little brother jumped from the window of his Manhattan apartment building on Christmas Eve morning.

Another Life

My blurb:

Salvatore has tried everything to escape the truth of why his mother is gone. And Nick, his brother acts as if she just left. This one day shapes their lives and loves in way unimaginable. And falling in love with Anna only complicates things. Her life is nothing like his, and her religion is defining. It is what signals the end for them, or does it? Can Nick ever let her go?

Another Life
Responsible, honourable Nick falls in love with passionate Jehovah’s Witness Anna over the course of one hot summer.
When Anna’s strict religion threatens to divide them, she must choose between love and family. But Nick is too scared to fight for Anna, and Anna walks away.
Years later, as Nick’s relationship with his impulsive younger brother, Sal, reaches breaking point, Anna is drawn back into Nick’s life. Will Nick find the courage to ask her to stay, or lose her forever?
My verdict:

As I cannot place myself within the religious confines of being a Jehovah’s Witness I have to rely on the author for the facts. And it sounds like this cult is worth escaping from if you listen to her accounts. And as much as Jodie has a lot to escape from, and therefore by extension, Anna does too. There is also what Nick and Sal are escaping from. A read that had me betwixt and between enjoying it, and not.
