Confession opening lines: It was a few minutes past midnight when Cash Dixon sprayed his marble kitchen island countertop with Lysol disinfectant for a second time, despite needing to go to bed.
My blurb:
Finally, Thane thinks he can handle a few legal cases that will not push him into the limelight. His first major case as a defendant saw him jailed for 5 years. And no sooner had he got out of jail for a crime he did not commit, he defended someone else he knew to be innocent. But, his wishes for some ordinary cases is pushed to the side when his wife asks him to defend a young woman who killed a well known man. Can Thane prove she did this in self defence, while keeping his family safe?
Confession
He got the revenge he had been looking for. Now he must confess to the one he loves the most.
Thane is haunted by the man he has become. After being framed for a murder he didn’t commit and landing on death row, he was finally able to prove his innocence. But the anger drove him to seek revenge, and now Thane has to grapple with the fact that he’s not the innocent man he used to be.
When his wife tries to help a young sex worker accused of murdering a popular university football coach, Thane gets the opportunity to do good by exposing a ring of corruption that has been festering for decades. But this time, there’s no hope of winning the case because his client already confessed to the murder.
Thane faces mounting pressure from the university, business tycoons, and a public that idolizes the coach. But the most dangerous threat comes from his client’s pimp, a ruthless psychopath named Stick, whom Thane and his team crossed paths with during their last trial. Stick’s brutal methods make it clear that he’s willing to kill again to keep his name out of the trial, and that killing could include Thane’s wife and unborn daughter.
The only way Thane can keep his family safe is to get a plea deal for his client, but she won’t be silenced-she rejects the plea deal and demands the public hear the truth.
Thane will have to use all the cunning he has to keep himself and his client out of prison once again.
My verdict:
This is the third book in the Thane Banning series and you do not have to read the first two in order for you to follow along with what has happened leading up to this point. However, the first two books, Contempt, and, Conviction, are so well written I suggest you read them first. I thought this was an excellent read, with a surprising twist or two.

I haven’t read anything from Michael Cordell yet…thanks for introducing me another crime author, Tandy.
My pleasure 🙂
I’ve never read any of his books but this does sound interesting.
They are on Kindle so easy to get 🙂
The idea of a defense lawyer going to jail for murder related to his trial seems very unique. A most interesting review.
I think you will enjoy these books!
I watch a lot of police detective shows on Netflix but I tend to read historical fiction. I might give this author a try- starting with the first book. Thanks.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I did 🙂
