I drink a lot of water and have stuck to the same formula for 30 years. You take your weight and multiply it by 30. This gives you the millilitres you should be drinking. I totally agree with Georgina that plain water can be boring. I have a stunning glass container for infused water and I aim to try most of these recipes this summer.

What I thought:

I really liked the section on ingredient health benefits. Even though I am aware of them through my studies, it helps to be reminded. I would have liked to know the specific benefit of each recipe though.

What I made:

I love ginger in hot drinks and so the first recipe I tried was the one for mint, ginger & lemon. Using 5cm root ginger, 1 lemon, 20 mint leaves and 500mls boiling water, this was really refreshing. Not wanting to waste the ingredients I added a rooibos tea bag to make a second infusion using 1l of water. For the cold pomegranate & ginger infusion I used 175g pomegranate arils and 10cm of root ginger. If I make this again I will use less ginger as my glass jug only takes 750mls of water and the recipe calls for 1.25l. I was intrigued by the star anise & black pepper hot infusion which uses 15mls black peppercorns and 4 whole star anise. Infused with 500mls boiling water and 30g of honey this was really good. I used the tiny little bit I had left over to steam some Brussels sprouts.

  2. I love this post. The first thing that fascinated me is the amount of water that you drink Tandy. Wow. I have never heard that formula before but I drink about half that. I’m really interested in exploring this further. Second, I love the title of the book and the way it is organized. I’m particularly fascinated with the star anise black pepper as it sounds perfectly energizing to me. I make shrubs for sipping in the evenings but had not really thought much about infused waters. Since I no longer drink caffeine, I am always looks for different beverages. Thanks so much.
