Out And About: MareSol, Cape Town
Dave and I were invited to the launch of the latest V&A Waterfront Restaurant. On the 25th of November we headed into town to enjoy tapas at MareSol. They dish up traditional Portuguese food with hint of Mozambique. Situated close to Quay Four on Pierhead, we had the choice of sitting outside on the boardwalk, or inside. The restaurant is two storeys and the view from both are fantastic. We chose to eat downstairs where we could see platters of food leaving the kitchen.
What we ate and drank
We were greeted at the door with a choice of Pongrácz MCC. Dave chose the Brut and I went for the Rosé. We then moved on to some Newlands Spring craft beers. We shared two which were the perfect compliment to the food. The dishes are all spicy, using what I gather are birds’ eye chillies. The good thing is that the spice soon disappeared from my palate. This allowed me to climb straight back in. We indulged in freshly baked Portuguese rolls, chicken livers (Figados de Frango), hot chicken wings (Asas de Frango), prawns wrapped in bacon (Camarão com Bacon), chicken trinchado (Trinchado Galinha), chicken prego (Prego de Galinha) and prawns (Camarão). This was followed by a dessert platter of rice pudding (Arroz Doce), Portuguese pastry tart (Pasteis de Nata) and chocolate tart (Tartaleta de Chocolate).
