Revenge of Odessa opening lines: Senator Jack Johnson admired his new, tailor-made tuxedo in the mirror. It fitted perfectly, and so it should: it had cost more than his first car.
My blurb:
Georg is chasing a story, the latest killing spree of Muslim extremists. Following the wounded to the hospital, he stumbles upon something much bigger than the piece he is writing about. An elderly man thinks he is his father, and the word Odessa is used in a way that makes Georg realize something bigger is at play. Can he, his grandfather and his godfather stop the Nazi regime from gaining power, not only in Germany, but in the biggest democracy in the Western World?
Revenge of Odessa
The Nazis may have lost the battle. But the war is just beginning…Summer, 2025. A US senator is burned to death in his Washington townhouse. Masked gunmen massacre supporters during a football match in Berlin. And an old man is murdered while he sleeps in the dementia ward of a German hospital. Three apparently unconnected events, three steps on the countdown to apocalypse. When journalist and podcaster Georg Miller starts joining the dots between them, he finds himself the target of professional killers. His investigation soon reveals that his would-be assassins are from an organisation known as the Odessa, a menacing and powerful Nazi group intent on regaining power. The Odessa has spread its poison from a covert compound in the Bavarian countryside all the way to the halls of the American Capitol. And now, as their campaign to destabilise the Western political system accelerates, Georg must stop the next attack, before it changes the course of history…
My verdict:
Frederick Forsyth was a formidable story teller before his death earlier this year. The Day of the Jackal being the first of many amazing novels, and the one we all probably recognize. Following on from The Odessa File came a four page synopsis from Frederick Forsyth. Written by Tony Kent, this book takes us into the realm of the possible. One can only hope it is the improbable. May life never go back to what it was in the 1930’s that lead to the massacre of so many people, just for what they believed, or for who they were. Pick up a copy at your local bookstore, and add this to your to be read list. You will not regret the choice.
About the Author:
Tony Kent is a thriller writer, a criminal barrister and a former champion boxer who has been acclaimed by the UK press as ‘the British David Baldacci’. He writes the bestselling Joe Dempsey / Michael Devlin series of political action thrillers, beginning in 2018 with ‘Killer Intent’ and continuing thereafter with ‘Marked For Death’, ‘Power Play’, ‘No Way To Die’ and ‘’The Shadow Network’. His series protagonist Joe Dempsey was dubbed ‘The British Jack Reacher’ by The Sunday Times and all of his last three books were picked as ‘Thriller of the Month’ by the same newspaper and its sister publication, The Times. Tony lives just outside London with his wife Victoria, their son Joseph and their Jack-Russell terrier Maximus, where he focuses on family life, work, writing and – with what little time he has left – a new found passion for weight-training.

An interesting read . . . may get it as this is one of the few kinds of fiction books for which I find time . . . am so out-of-date I did not even know Frederick Forsyth had died . . . rather liked his books in the ‘good old days’ . . .
I do not think it was extensively publicized that he had passed away!
Absolutely love the series of The Day of the Jackal!!! I am waiting for the season 2 with Eddie Redmayne. I hope this one by Tony Kent is great too.
I cannot wait for season 2!
I cannot wait for season 2 either!
Sounds very intense and complex, but in a good way. Definitely a thriller.
Very much so!
An excellent review. TC reads Fredrick Forsyth.
