November 2025 has to be the windiest month we have had for a long time. The wind sent the rain northwards, which was needed but led to a lot of flooding. And it also caused the fires to burn like mad here in the Western Cape. Our fynbos needs the flames for regrowth, but what we did not need was the loss of homes, farming land and animals. I spent part of my time this month catching up with friends and family. And the rest was spent organizing our 2026 European holiday.
Recipes from my blog in November 2025
Not only am I sent recipe books to review, I am lucky enough to be able to share some recipes from the books with you. This month from Jan-Hendrik’s book Klein Jan I showcased spicy tomato chutney, roasted red pepper and chicken soup, and orange cake. Recreating a recipe from a restaurant, I made a green salad. This is packed full of goodness and can be adjusted to what is in season. I will only be able to enjoy it at home now, as it is off the menu. From my Italian friend Tiziana I shared a recipe for mezze maniche in brodo. This was a comforting dish that we enjoyed in winter. I also made Aussie pitas, inspired by Sammie.
One new thing in my kitchen
A friend and I go for a walk most Wednesday mornings and our route along the beachfront takes us past a coffee truck. This is our winter walk, and we stop for a warm drink on our way back. I got a pack of silicone straws to go in the to-go cups I purchased. This makes drinking much easier while walking. Our summer route is different, but we still stop for something to drink. I am also using these straws for my morning smoothie which I drink in the car on the way to work. The best thing is that they go straight into the dishwasher to get cleaned.
This is my December submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

we have had the most incredible month here with the coldest day (for the start of summer) down south with snow, and of course the insane heat and hail storms around us. Crazy stuff! Hope you have a great December/festive season.
cheers

Hail storms can bring so much destruction!
I need to get some of those silicone straws, I got some glass ones and they are a challenge to keep clean. Also, Tandy, you had some delicious eats in November – that chicken korma, tomato chutney, and orange cake are on my list to try!
I would be so scared of the glass ones breaking in my mouth!
November is usually wet, windy and cloudy over here…hope we have a white X’mas this year.
I will hope you do!
Great food this past month! I have silicone straws as well. The paper variety were awful!!!
I also cannot stand the paper straws!
‘Savoury me’ loved all your interesting recipes this month! Altho’ we have had a lot of rain ‘my way’ we are being warned of a record-hot summer and widespread bushfires . . . scared to think back of the horrors we experienced only a few years ago. Just had a day with nearly 40C temps and 90-100 km winds and everyone held their breath! Hope your summer won’t be devastating!
I hope the same for you!
I can’t believe we’ve already wrapped up November. Wild to take a look back an see how much time as passed, and how much we’ve accomplished. It’s always fun to see your roundups to really drive the point home.
Thanks! It is a good reminder of the month for sure 🙂
Hard to believe we’re already in December – the year has flown by. Always enjoy reading your monthly updates.
Thanks, and yes, this year has flown by indeed 🙂
The straws look like a neat addition to your kitchen!
Thank you Mae 🙂
As always everything looks so delicious! Wishing you great travels for you upcoming travels!
Thank you so much!
Fires are just so destructive and no doubt here in Australia there will be more in Summer. You cooked some lovely dishes for your blog last month which I appreciated. I’m late with this, so easy to get behind at this time of year. By the way your Wednesday walks sound great.
The fires have been relentless this year with one wine estate losing most of their buildings!
