Together: Our Community Cookbook

Together

Together, Our community Cookbook is a collection of recipes from the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen. Based in the Al-Manaar Mosque. This kitchen opened after the Grenfell Tower tragedy as a means for the women who had been displaced to cook for their families. All profits go to the benefit of this community kitchen. Hubb means love in Arabic, and these recipes reflect so much more than just that. Together is about community and friendship, support and blessings. Healing power and most importantly, love.

What I made:

Before I knew which recipes I would be able to share on the blog from Together, I made the simple chocolate cake. It was so moist and so good and worth making. For that you will have to buy the book. The coconut chicken curry was served at a small dinner party I hosted and it was so good that I made it again a few days later. Served with home-made naan bread, this is a winner. And I will be sharing the recipe with you soon. Sadly, the caramelised plum upside-down cake was a failure!

Coconut Chicken Curry: Together

What I loved:

Each recipe had the name of the person who created it, and the story behind the dish. This made the recipes so much more personal. The traditional and English names (where applicable) for each recipe is listed. it is amazing that the women who created this book come from all over. They are from Algeria, France, Russia, Uganda, Yemen, Baghdad, Iraq, Egypt, Ethiopia and London. The photographs are lovely and not only of the food, but of the women cooking as well. Please go out and buy a copy of this book, and for more information take a look at the Royal Foundation website.
