April 2025 was quite a month. We had a slew of public holidays, which meant a lot of days off work. Had the weather been perfect for all of them, we could have sat outside with our feet in the pool. But days off work did not bring sunshine. We went out for dinner a few times, and out for afternoon coffee over the Easter weekend. The roads were so busy and our Metro Police and Traffic Officers were out in full force. I went up to Johannesburg to spend time with my Father, and to work. And now I am away in the Baviaanskloof region of the Cape, without any internet!
Recipes from my blog in April 2025
Sweet treats were front and centre with salted dark chocolate biscuits that were used for coffee time, and to make ice cream sandwiches. I must say that the colour contrast with the apricot kernel ice cream was amazing. And the taste was out of this world. For Easter there were mug cakes, and during the month we enjoyed a limoncello cake. On the savoury side I made sriracha mayonnaise with my homemade sauce, as well as salted olive bread and turmeric fried eggs.
One new thing in my kitchen
In 2013 I bought Dave a coffee grinder. It does the job perfectly, but it makes a huge mess. I decided to get this small brush and pan set to make getting rid of the grinds that spill out of the machine easier. It works like a charm, and despite my good intentions to only use it for the bar counter, I have also used it to clean the door sill of our folding doors.
This is my May submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.
Dave and I are doing a mini road trip in South Africa, in an area with limited internet connection. I will be back at work on the 5th of May and will reply to all comments then.

I love my country, and enjoyed this trip a lot!
I have a similar one for the breadcrumbs left on the table 🙂 Enjoy your road trip, Tandy.
Thanks so much!

p.s I am not if my comment went through as I have been having problem leaving a reply here…
There is something with comments right now, as mine battle to publish on your blog as well! But it is here, and thanks for leaving one 🙂
Love that little dust broom!
It is too cute!
I cannot believe it’s May already!
And you had so many interesting recipes in April; my favourite are the ice cream and limoncello cake.
Thanks for sharing your favourites 🙂
Some great food there Tandy. Yes we had so many public hols in april! And another one for May day tomorrow. I think May will be a wee bit slower for us but who knows? The mug cake looks like fun, and I like the sound of limoncello cake. Have a great May.

I am glad to be back at work, and in some sort of routine 🙂
Your baked items look and sound delicious.
Thank you Mae 🙂
Everything looks so good and I am loving the colour of those turmeric eggs!
The colour was really amazing!
A very delicious month, indeed! I hope may treats you kindly as well. 🙂
Thank you so much Hannah 🙂
Love the sound of the Limoncello cake Tandy, I sometimes think I will make Limoncello, but the price of vodka here is exorbitant, and the limoncello is cheaper. I was sure I had commented on your post, I definitely read it a lot earlier,
the dustpan and brush is so cute and useful. All the best, Pauline (Happy Retirees Kitchen)
Alcohol is very expensive in Australia of my memory serves me correctly. And why make it if it is cheaper to buy?
