Chocolate Malt Popsicle

I love that I can make different popsicles all at once. Using the same base I came up with three flavours. The first one was this chocolate malt popsicle which I had all to myself while Dave was at work.

For three weeks my entire focus was home. The enforced lockdown meant a lot of changes for Dave and I. For the first week we were both home. And mostly it felt like our December break. Except for the fact that we could not have friends over. And we only went shopping once. In the second week, Dave went back to work as an essential service provider. This gave me some time at home alone. And I really had to structure my days. I mostly stuck to the routine I had planned. Merely adjusting it as I had more time to myself than I expected. By the third week I was used to the quiet and felt very positive about life. But not so positive about finances. Yet, I kept reminding myself how blessed I was. We have a huge house and garden and lots of space.

There was food on our table and plenty in the fridge, freezer and pantry to get by. Most importantly, we were healthy. And then while lockdown was still in force for the country, our industry was declared essential. It was weird driving to work the first day. There was no traffic on the road so to speak of. Everyone in our complex was closed. And it was really quiet. Not only the noise levels of the surrounding area. But at the office itself. The phone was not ringing and no orders were coming in. All you could hear was Dave’s machines – a sound I am so used to, and the tapping of the keys on the keyboard.

  1. It’s such a strange time isn’t it? How do you feel about being deemed an essential service? It must be good to be busy and have cashflow but I think I’d feel like some days I wouldn’t want to work when the stress gets too much. I’m sure your customers thank you though 🙂

  2. Tandy, I haven’t made a popsicle in years, but I think we still have some molds so as soon as it warms up more hear I’ll be giving this a try. Thanks for the inspiration and recipe.

  3. We’ve noticed the extreme quiet in the streets too, especially in commercial neighborhoods where there’s usually plenty of action.

  4. I have been hearing today, Tandy, that the highway has been very busy. We obviously have a lot more essential workers in SA than I realised. I am not essential but have been working very long hours for weeks and weeks without a break. I feel a bit grouchy at the relentlessness of it all today.

    1. It is so important to take a break! And to me, everyone who can earn an income should be considered essential 🙂

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
