September 2025 arrived so quickly, and it was manic up until the moment we left for the airport. I started this blog post on the 12th and came back on the 17th to edit it, as our flight to Amsterdam was cancelled. We ended up flying out one day later but before we could go we had to change our hotel reservation, our dinner booking, and sort out all sorts of other small details. Before we went away we had dinner at friends. The evening was amazing, but I left with an overload of histamines. The next few days were spent ensuring my sore throat did not develop into anything worse. As I have not been sick for so long I discovered that my nasal spray was a little off. Of course, I had to use it first to realize that. We also went out for dinner to our favourite Italian eatery, which I have yet to blog about.
Recipes from my kitchen in September 2025
As I have a lot of recipe books to review, a lot of recipes this month were not my own. I made Jamie Oliver’s seasonal greens, adapted his microwave gnocchi to go with a courgette, pea and mint sauce, and devoured his baked bolognese pancakes. In an attempt to match bakewell scones with jam, I made bakewell jam. We enjoyed the beetroot with saffron yoghurt which I made after watching an interview with Yotam Ottolenghi, and blueberry ricotta drop scones went down like a treat!
One new thing in my kitchen
I destroyed another silpat! It was already feeling sticky and I left it in the oven by mistake. By the time I remembered, I had baked something at an extremely high temperature and all that could be done with it was to toss it. I use it so often, but decided this time to go with a different type of silicone baking sheet. So far, I have not had success with using it as it does not quite fit my oven tray which I use for making granola. However, if it only gets used for rolling out pastry that will also be OK as it was not nearly as expensive as the Silpat.
This is my October submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens. I only got back from overseas yesterday, and I am not at work today. This post has been scheduled so that I don’t miss out on being a part of this fantastic group.

So sorry to hear about your flight and subsequent sickness! Here’s hoping that October will be only good things.
thank you so much!
Great looking food this month! Sorry about your silpat….
My own fault! They need to make them withstand higher temperatures 😉
Glad your trip ended well after all the changes needed. I am looking at the gnocchi with the pea mint sauce. and it sure looks like something I would enjoy trying. Yes histamines, whew, who knew they could be such a problem, currently having food issues in this area.
Sorry to hear about your food issues and I hope you can resolve them 🙂
I hope you are feeling better now…how did you know it’s an overload of histamines? I meant the symptoms could have meant something else. I once thought I had histamine problem because of rush on my back…but it ended up some food allergy.
I had wine with too many histamines so I knew it was that 😉
A lot of good recipes this month. I especially liked the scones with the ricotta and the gnocchi with the mint sauce- so interesting. Traveling can be difficult when we are surprised with cancellations. Glad it all worked out.
Thank you!
Oh it must have been so annoying to have your flight cancelled. As you say, so many little things to re-arrange. Grrrr! I just use baking paper rather than a silicone mat. I do have one, but it was huge so i had to cut it down to fit my baking trays 🙂 Hope your trip went well, and thanks for joining in.

In the end, the trip went well! Now to claim all the refunds from the airline!
How annoying about your flight but hope you had a good trip once you got going. I published a Bakewell Traybake recipe last month and I am obsessed with all things Bakewell so will check out your scones and your jam. YUM! I love baking bolognese in pancakes, I will have to compare notes with Jamie 🙂 Hope you have a fabulous October!
I am sure yours will be as good if not better than Jamie’s 😉
My silpat mats are old and a bit sticky but keep working.
have a good month! best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Glad to hear yours still work!
You’d think that Silpats would come in common baking sheet sizes, but they don’t. Maybe they come in French baking sheet sizes! Also, although sheet pans come in standard sizes, I don’t think cookie sheets do. I searched and searched for Silpats that would fit neatly on my cookie sheets, and couldn’t find any! (And yes, I also have one huge Silpat … I’m not quite sure why I bought it, and I use it occasionally as a rolling mat.
You have pointed out something that has irked me since the first one I bought. I have a German oven and none of the baking sheets fit the provided baking trays 🙂
I’m so sorry about your flight and the fact that you got sick too. I’ll have to look at that microwave gnocchi.
Let me know if you make it 🙂
sorry to hear about your flight and illness! and even more sorry to have missed you in Paris. as it turns out all 3 of us came down with some awful virus (probably covid) the few days you were here, and we were all tucked in bed like a trio of delirious potatoes. hope you got lots of yummies in on your trip! have a great October x
Hi, Dave is also ill, and has passed it on to my staff! Luckily (holding thumbs and crossing fingers and knocking on wood), I have not had the virus everyone else had in the house. Hopefully we get to meet up next year when we are back in Paris 🙂
