August 2026 was chock-a-block full of packed weekends. We had motor racing twice which is unusual for us, but one of the races was an endurance race. We usually get to the track in time for breakfast, and leave after dessert is served. One Saturday I went with my girlfriends to do a wine tasting at Ken Forrester. It was a lovely break from the norm, and nice to catch up. Holly had a vet appointment for her ears. She has had more check-ups this year than all our dogs had over the past 10 years. At least she is getting used to the car.
Recipes from my blog in August 2026
As part of my recipe book recipe testing, I made chilli con carne and bran and berry muffins. For International Scone week I created two recipes, one for Bakewell scones, and the other for bara brith scones. Both were excellent and if I did not feel the need to keep this going, I would make the bara brith ones again and again. I have not had time to create recipes for the past few months, and this month was no better! To keep my blog active I shared recipes from the past for vodka pickled cucumbers, and a lamb marinade.
One new thing in my kitchen
I have one pair of kitchen scissors and the other day they had been used to cut open a packet of chicken pieces. I needed to use them again to cut some vacuum seal bags, which meant having to clean them! Feeling very lazy, I just went upstairs and got my bedroom scissors, which are not ideal! So, I decided to get myself a new pair of scissors. They will take some getting used to as there is a sharp edge on both sides, and they are not as comfortable a grip as the ones I have been using for the past decade or so.
This is my September submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

Busy month
It really was!
Is one side of that sharp edge a beer opener?
I will test that out and see!
Busy month having fun & cooking delicious recipes. The new scissors look pretty nice!
I am still getting used to them 😉
I use scissors all the time in the kitchen! So I do understand wanting and needing more than only 1 pair. Everything you made looks delicious, I always get some great ideas from your IMK post! Happy September to you!
I am so glad I inspire you 🙂
Poor Holly – hope she’s feeling better. Gosh, your scones look good – I’ll have one of each thanks 🙂
I was well pleased with the scones 🙂
It’s always good to see what you cooked and what you added in your kitchen.
thanks for taking a peek!
A good pair of scissors in the kitchen is invaluable! Hubby bought a fabulous pair a while ago, and they cut thru most things. Tho i do keep a separate pair for only food! Thanks for joining in this month, and see you in October. can you believe this year?

This year is rushing by far too fast!
Happy September! Looks like you’re off to a sharp start with those scissors there. 😉
Love the pun!
Hi Tandy! I must try those scones! They look delicious.
Thank you so much Susanna 🙂
I’ve only had scones once on a cruise ship. I don’t think they are that popular in my area.
They are very English 🙂
had to look up with Bara Brith and Bakewell scones were! so funny how you think scones are like an international food but there is so much variety
I love that there is so much variety!
