June 2024 Showcasing In My Kitchen

June 2024 started off with a bang. I went from having zero plans, to busy within a blink of an eye. I helped a friend out with her grandchildren and baked chocolate muffins with them. Vergelegen Wine Estate have a pop-up restaurant, and I was invited to go along and enjoy a meal. If you want to experience this, Cabernet & Carne is open until the end of August for lunch on Wednesdays to Sundays, and Friday and Saturday dinners over full moon weekends. We met friends for a meal at 96 Winery Road, had other friends over for supper, and went out for lunch at The Poke Co. in Somerset West. All of this before the month was half way through!

Recipes shared on my blog in June 2024

This month I shared 3 salts that I made as gifts. They were flavoured with Indian spices, Mexican spices, and Greek herbs. I made a huge batch of apple mint sauce. We kept one jar which is going really well with the lamb I got from a friend’s farm. The other was given to James and I hope they are enjoying theirs as much as we are enjoying ours. I also doubled up on my loaded broccoli soup. This made for great Saturday lunches when Dave got home from work. Black fig jam was made to go with some scones. Next month is International Scone Week, so look out for the post. I also made liquorice nuts which we snacked on with our evening whisky.

A special gift

We have been very lucky in that we have seen Mark and Eva 4 times in 12 months. This meant that by April when we saw them in Italy, we did not need any more liquorice. Mark gave us this most stunning tin, and I am using it to store all our liquorice in. The stroopwafels were devoured in one weekend!

  1. It’s funny how months can just get so full up so quickly. I think July will be huge for us. Guests and dinners and Historical Society events… Love that Dutch tin! Thanks for being part of IMK this month. Have a great July. cheers Sherry

  2. Isn’t it funny how the social calendar can go from zero to hero in the blink of an eye? It looks like you have had a very delicious month – those licorice nuts have my name all over them!

  3. From seasonal ingredients to innovative cooking techniques, each dish showcased in your kitchen reflects a true passion for food and a commitment to flavor. I particularly enjoyed learning/

  4. Great that you have seen friends and family so often! Making flavored salt as a gift is a good thought.
    Have a good July.

  5. I always think I am not busy at all as we get settled here in East Texas, but usually as the month closes I look back (especially if I am sharing with In My Kitchen) and realize I was busy after all! Have a great week ahead, all your travels and visiting sounds fun! Melynda @scratchmadefood!

  6. Licorice nuts … where have these been all my life??? (And glad to hear you’re a fellow whisky fan)…

  7. Sometimes I feel like I have very little to do and then the calendar just fills up which is a good thing. Enjoy that beautiful tin that you received as a gift. It looks perfect for your licorice. The licorice nuts sound interesting- I never tasted anything like that!

  8. I am not sure if my previous comment went through so I will repeat it sounds like a fun month and good food in the licorice nuts and loaded broccoli soup. Also meant to add that I will try and join in with the International Scone Week – just have been brainstorming some ideas!

    1. Hi, not sure what happened to your other comment – but it is not here. Thanks for posting another one, and I look forward to your scones xx
