To have a change from my usual smoothie, I made this berry smoothie from Jan Braai Junior. As Jan suggests, this can be enjoyed in the car which is exactly where I have my smoothie every morning.

Morning routines
Do you have a morning routine? I do, and follow it even when we are on leave, and at home. But for some reason, my Wednesday morning routine has not been easy to get back into since we returned to work. On a Wednesday I go for a morning walk with a friend. I should have an egg to eat before I leave home, but I keep on forgetting. And I also have not remembered to send her a message when I leave to let her know what time I will be at her house. The timing is never the same as it depends on what time we wake up. And on how much school traffic I encounter. The issue with not having something to eat before the walk is how hungry I am when I get to work.
My morning meals
Menopause has meant a lot of changes in my diet, some of which I am still getting used to. As we train four days a week, I only eat once I am dressed and ready for work. I have started eating a hard boiled egg while I am making my smoothie. Most mornings this consists of a mini cucumber, a celery stick, an apple, frozen ginger and blueberries and some fresh mint. To that I add kefir, as well as collagen. This will keep me full until 10am when I have some of my homemade granola and fat free yoghurt. On a Saturday I start with the granola as I eat breakfast with Dave, and on a Sunday he makes bacon and eggs. What sounds very boring to some, is very satisfying and filling for me. Do you eat the same thing for breakfast day in and day out?

Drinking smoothies has never been part of my life – but when I see what you manage to put into yours I feel like getting up, clapping and cheering! I like ALL of it. The blueberries, ginger and kefir impress the hell out of me, and, I like you, know a tad about what should be put into our mouths! Am trying to figure out the end taste – have to make to find out, I guess. I myself do need a big mug of strong black coffee with just a tad of sugar . . . but then it is a dark rye sourdough open sandwich with the kitchen sink piled on top, almost always with herring or anchovies or eel and cottage cheese and cucumbers and chives and dill and parsley etc . . . or when I run out of bread there are always rough and seedy wraps in the fridge to roll up with the same fillings and enjoy . . . after that I am fully fine until lunch . . .
I love the sound of your breakfast! I have become so used to having a smoothie every morning that I even have a smoothie maker that I take away with me 😉
I don’t do smoothie at all…and don’t think you can lure me into drinking any :-))
I eat a lot of animal fat and meat…actually my diet is 95% of meat, 5% spices and herbs…sometimes I have a bite of certain veggies here and there. I break my fast daily with a homemade bone broth, some cod liver, then about 600-700 grams of meat (depends on my workout), either beef, lamb, occasionally pork belly and meat…
Bone broth is so good for you! Do you make your own?
So fresh and refreshing! I love smoothies, but always as an afternoon treat. I’m very loyal to my morning routine of oatmeal and hot coffee, no matter the temperature or time of year. It gets a bit rough during the summer, I’ll admit, but I still love it.
Oh, I agree about the coffee – my morning does not start without one, no matter how hot it is!
I do love a boiled egg, and a smoothie but not so much with the bananas :=)
sherry
I could eat a banana every day – but they must not be too ripe 😉
