February 2025 proved to be a good old fashioned heat wave month. Temperatures hit over 30° Celsius by lunch time, and we had some nights where it did not cool down. Taking advantage of the dry, hot weather we started the demolition work on our balcony. The waterproofing needs redoing, and this seemed like the best month to start the work. The tiles and screeding were removed, and the front facing wall knocked down. This resulted in a lot of dust, and we have been unable to sleep with the door open. Only because I am worried Holly will not realize there is no end to the balcony, and fall off during the night.
Recipes from my kitchen in February 2025
I have been road testing The Great Marula Menu, which features two of my recipes. First up were chocolate flapjacks, which I served with toasted marshmallow gelato. If you choose to make one thing from my blog this month, this needs to be it. The ice cream was so moreish that I felt I had to make another batch as soon as Dave dished up the last scoop. I made evaporated milk so that I could bake spinach soufflés which puffed up proud and tall. And on the opposite scale, I baked a sunken chocolate cake. Amarula chicken wings were served on top of Amarula polenta. Amarula is the brand behind the recipe book, and is a locally produced liqueur. Last but not least was a matcha angel food cake to make use of my stash of egg whites.
Made especially for me
At the official launch for The Great Marula Menu we were given signed copies of the recipe book, as well as a bespoke apron. Now, I never wear an apron, but this one is special and will be kept for the memories.
This is my March submission to the #IMK series hosted by Sherry. Each month bloggers around the world gather to share what is new in their kitchens.

Oh Tandy – you should see my smile looking at the apron you’ll still have when time will make you ‘old and grey’ . . . 🙂 !
I might wear it then 😉
Lots of good food in your life this past month Tandy. Love that apron! We are preparing for a cyclone here atm, so not much else happening. There is a certain eery sound of silence outside… Thanks for joining in this month.
cheers
sherry
Hope you are not too badly affected!
Sherry – been there . . . am thinking of you . . . best!
I am hoping you all stay safe!
oh my look at that spinach souffle! I’m so impressed. the great Marula project looks awesome and I’m chuffed for you that you have your personal apron. Have a great month! PS I’ll send you an email with Paris stuff
Thank you so much for the lovely email, I so appreciate it 🙂
The apron looks pretty nice and like you, I don’t use it when I cook.
I have tried a few times but I don’t like the way they feel 🙂
I’m a pretty messy cook so I do wear an apron! That looks like a nice one.

It is pretty hefty 🙂
Problem again with commenting….sorry, if I somehow published a few more times, Tandy.

Thanks for making the effort to comment again 🙂
I love wearing an apron when it’s not too hot, certainly protects my clothes when I cook. How exciting to have two of your recipes accepted Tandy, well done. Your dishes this month look delicious, and I would love to try the ice cream.
Let me know please if you do indeed try the ice cream 🙂
