I don’t usually like to have anything with my fish if it is freshly caught, and simply grilled. But, battered fish goes so well with a herby tartar sauce. And it can be used if your fish is a little bit dry. This happens if it has been in the freezer for too long, or if overcooked.

Our rough week continued with trepidation for the next 96 hours. Dave was worried each time Scarlett came near Holly. He thought something would happen, and so kept telling her to leave the puppy alone. I felt they needed to make peace and wanted to let them be. But, we were both in a state of heightened awareness. The weekend passed without incident, but Scarlett did not come and spend time with me. Nor was she a happy dog. I felt it was because she was mourning the loss of her friend who had slept next to her for over 5 years. On Monday afternoon Holly and Scarlett played rope together, and Scarlett even let me play with her. The dogs had a play fight which left me anxious it would turn into a real one. But no sooner had it started than Scarlett went off to snooze.

I fed them supper and as I was sorting out their bowls the attack happened. Thankfully Dave was close by, and before Scarlett could do much damage to Holly he got them apart. This is no mean feat with a 30kg Boxer. He took Scarlett straight to the vet to put her to sleep. This was awful, but she just flipped, and who know who could be next in her path of anger. After speaking to the vet he 100% believes we made the right choice. He suspects she had a brain tumour which is the only explanation he could give for the sudden change in her behaviour. Our home feels very empty and our hearts are very sore. For now, Holly will be an only dog while we recover from this trauma, and let her recover as well.

so sorry to hear about Scarlett. yes i reckon it must have been a brain tumour. dogs don’t normally just change like that. Like your sauce too! Sending hugs.
thanks for the hugs xx
Oh Tandy, What a horrible experience and trauma. I am so sorry. I’m sure it was not easy for you to put her down. Your tarter sauce with the capers sounds wonderful.
Thank you for both sentiments Judee 🙂
