Vanilla ice cream may be seen as the poor cousin to all the other amazing flavours you get out there. But, the way to tell if an ice cream is good is to order the vanilla. You want a smooth texture and you must be able to taste pure vanilla. It is after all, all about the vanilla! Here I have added honeycomb to my ice cream to add some crunch.

I don’t often visit the animal pages on Facebook as when I do all I see are people who pass judgement. One page moans at everyone who does not chip their dog. Have you ever seen how they do this? Given how often Patch ran away we decided to chip Molly when we got her. She was 9 months old and weighed under 4 kilograms and they took this huge needle and shoved a chip into her neck. She did not enjoy the experience one little bit. And to make matters worse, the chip failed and she had to be injected again. This seemed like cruel and unusual punishment. When we got Misty I requested that they chip her while she was under general anaesthetic for her spaying. However, they could not do this as she had a ‘hot spot’ on her neck. And herein lies another area of judgement.

The other day I read about a Jack Russell that had been found with terrible eczema. People on the lost and found page were cruel, damning the owner for her ‘neglect’ and instructing her what to do. She replied that her dog is currently on treatment and yet still the comments came in thick and fast. Misty has hot spots and eczema and she worries her paws all the time. She is bald in areas and I would hate for her to get lost and have that same judgement thrown at me, because we do all that we can for her. I also do all that I can for Dave. He loves ice cream as long as it is not coffee flavoured. I decided to make a batch of vanilla ice cream. I left half plain and to the other container I added honeycomb for crunch.
Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients
- 3 eggs, separated
- 395 g condensed milk
- 500 mls cream
- 15 mls vanilla extract
Method
- Place the egg yolks and condensed milk into a large mixing bowl
- Whisk to combine
- Place the cream and vanilla into a mixing bowl
- Whisk until firm
- Fold into the condensed milk
- Place the egg whites into a mixing bowl
- Whisk to stiff peaks
- Fold into the condensed milk
- Place into a freezer container and put into the freezer

Brewers Yeast tablets, two per day. It will take some time taking them before you notice a difference but, after three months, my poor Border Collie had the thickest, glossiest luxurious coat you can imagine. Up to that time he had had a flea allergy and literally tore his hair out from shoulders back, completely. The blurb I read that put me on to Brewers Yeast said it didn’t kill them but the scent (not noticeable to humans) their skin exuded grossed out the fleas so they went elsewhere. In the meantime, the Brewers Yeast did wonderful things for his skin. His coat was no longer dried out and frizzy but as I described above. Seriously, more than ‘worth a try’. Good luck!

Vanilla is actually my favorite flavor. I love the idea of adding honeycomb to half of it. Simple. Perfect. Your ice cream looks amazing.

I belong to a local dog lover group on Facebook. Most folk are lovely and reasonable people who genuinely love their animals but there will always be a few oddballs and those who criticise everything, tell us how to feed and care for our dogs “their” way and you just have to learn to tune them out. We know that we love our dogs and do the very best for them! Love the recipe, I adore vanilla and honeycomb too. Funny though, my family’s favourite is the one Dave hates…..Coffee!

It’s hard to believe making ice cream can have so few ingredients and be this simple. I really appreciate how I don’t need one of the $400 blenders which obviously I don’t have! And it’s real. Nice reward for Dave who I’m sure deserves it. And men just seem to like ice cream, can’t find one who doesn’t!!! haha.

yeah store bought vanilla stuff is bad. Homemade with full vanilla flavor is excellent, yours looks great. Boy so happy to have a cat that does not go outside except for my balcony!

Homemade everything is best and this one is no exception, Tandy. Vanilla flavor is the best in ice-creams, because it can be paired with almost all the desserts.

I’ve never thought about vanilla ice cream needing to taste like pure vanilla, but your right! Geez.. Shows you the quality of ice cream I’ve eaten… This recipe seems pretty easy and not too labor intensive which is great! I remember making homemade ice cream when I was younger and having to turn the crank forever before the ice cream was ready.. Your way is much better! 🙂

What an ordeal for your puppy, we had to take our Little Chef to the vet yesterday to get his injections and pills etc, he has decided that tablets are not his thing and started nipping if you try get a tablet down. The vet had to use a ‘pill popper’ on him. He came out shaking and worried. Nothing worse then seeing your baby distressed. 🙁 Give your pup a cuddle for me. Also… great ice-cream.
