Blistered Tomatoes

I very seldom make a recipe again once I have perfected it. This mainly has to do with my blog, as most things I make are for this space. My recipe for blistered tomatoes is barely a recipe! But I am sharing it here as the result was so good, Dave had me make these twice.

Filling this space with words used to be quite easy. I would share my musings and life happenings with all and sundry. But that came to an end in October 2023. On the morning the news broke about Hamas murdering so many Jews, I was confronted by an anti-semitic statement. I held my tongue, as lashing out would achieve nothing. But, these words cut to the core and my heart felt a little bit broken in the moment. When we got back from overseas I knew that I could not post personal feelings in this space. The trolls would come out, and this was not something I wanted to deal with again. And just when I felt ready to start my daily diary again, someone told a person I care about deeply that I had posted a statement on Facebook that I had not posted.

Fractured hearts and blistered tomatoes

The person believed the lie and this has caused the most unimaginable rupture of our family life. Eventually I had to share what had happened with other family members and the support has been amazing. But the flipside to this was a judgement comment that was made to me. It came out of nowhere, from someone who does not know the backstory to our lives. And it was said with utter conviction that their opinion was the correct one. Another fracturing of my heart leaving me feeling an intense sadness. And as usual, when feeling sad, I head to my kitchen. To create anything from lavish recipes, to something as simple as these blistered tomatoes. There is comfort in the process of cooking, and healing takes place as I gather ingredients together, and cook something for the love of my life.

  1. so sorry to hear about the troubled times Tandy in your life. Both myself and my hubby do not see our families anymore due to all sorts of problems. It never gets easier! I still mourn the loss. Sending best wishes. (sorry to say you know how i feel about tomatoes too :=) )
    sherry xx

  2. Your words are so heartfelt. Most of us find comfort in cooking especially during painful times.
I love blistered tomatoes too. They go so well with so many dishes, so its lovely to see them shared again.

  3. What an easy and tasty way to treat the beautiful vegetable . . . just a little different to the usual ‘raw’ or ‘cooked in a dish’ . . . Inevitably, after some 15 years wandering around the highways and byways of being on line . . . yes, naturally I notice when others ‘misunderstand’ accidentally or on purpose . . . my way is just to turn the proverbial 6 1/2 degrees and not let other people’s moods bother me.

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
