Mulled Cider

I bought a bottle of cider that was recommended to me and it was awful. So much so that the only palatable thing I could think of doing with it was to make mulled cider. Thankfully the weather is perfect for warm drinks right now.

Every good thing I knew, about the British Postal system went out of the window last month. Dave and I have a tap sensor which we bought on a previous visit to England. The sensitivity is is not working properly, so we arranged to have it sent in for testing. The Saturday after we arrived the post offices were meant to be open. However, the staff decided this was a good day to strike, so Royal Mail offices were closed. Dave found a satellite office that was open and took our parcel in for posting. He chose priority mail so it would get to Croydon on Monday afternoon. However, the lady behind the counter was so disinterested in Dave, and what he was saying, that she placed the sticker on the FROM side of the box, and not the TO side.

We were not aware of this until a week later when the parcel was delivered to my cousin’s house. All of this showed poor service. The lady Dave dealt with made an error but she also must have held onto the parcel or Royal Mail did nothing about getting it delivered. The distribution centre is half a mile from where Dave took the parcel. And from there it took a week to get to Oxford. A short 2 hour drive away. Dave took the box to Royal Mail in Abingdon and they sent it to the correct address, thankfully free of charge. But this meant we have come home without the sensor, and have a non-working tap in our prep bowl. We have realized just how often we use this water source so it is quite a pain not to have the sensor back yet. Is your postal service good?

  1. Hi Tandy, the public services in Britain all seem very poor lately. Perhaps people got into bad habits of doing nothing over Covid. The passports, visas, and driving licence renewal services are all terrible.

  2. We have such a heat wave with temps reaching almost 100 and humid that a hot drink right now doesn’t seem that inviting. However, love the idea and with the spices of cinnamon, orange zest and star anise (which I have never tried) for our fall months.

  3. This sounds delightful! I’m going to tag this for the holidays. 🙂 Our postal system is usually pretty good. Every now and then something weird will happen. This past June we ordered sunglasses and tracker their delivery. They got within 100 miles of us and then went clear across the country to the east coast. ??? I’m not sure we ever got them. The company sent another pair that finally made it to us. Lol

I would ♥ to hear from you (comments will be visible when I reply)
