BBC Food has a fantastic program which has aired in South Africa – Come Dine With Me. Five people get to host a dinner party and at the end of each evening, the 4 guests rate the host on a scale of 1 to 10. The person with the highest score wins £1000 at the end of the week. These people think themselves brilliant cooks and the challenge is to shop for and cook a three course meal in one day, and then have the people over and serve the meal. Rating is done on the quality of the meal as well as the hosting capabilities. So, have you watched the show and said, ‘I can do a better than that!’ Well this is your opportunity to prove it, to host your very own ‘Come Dine with Me’ evening.
My challenge to you is to cook a three course meal for 4 people (including yourself) and blog your recipes as well as the pictures. This challenge is for the whole of December and if you are going to participate, please let me know. Each contestant needs to be scored out of 10 by their guests. The five top contestants will then be judged by an independent person, and the winner will receive an awesome prize! Winners will be announced in January.
So, invite your friends and family, cook them a delicious meal and ask them to score you out of 10. You can do this as often as you want during the month and each entry will count. You can have more than 3 people over, but only submit 3 scores and ensure they play fair! You could even make it a group effort. Ask your guests to return the favour and invite the same group to a follow-up ‘Come Dine with Me’ evening at their place, where you get to score them. All blog posts will be considered, no matter which platform you use, or whether you are a foodie or not. The only requirement is that you reside in South Africa due to the prize being offered.
Make it fun, and maybe consider a theme for your dinner party.
Oh my, this is going to be so much fun!
I’m assuming our spouses count as a guest?
yes!
OK, just so you know, I am entering my Christmas lunch for this challenge and two of my guests are chefs. #scaredandnervous
I am going to participate – will host my party tonight. I did not watch the show, so how do they rate you – just on taste? I was thinking of setting up a rating form, where they must rate me on appearance of the dish, taste, and then textture? What do you thibk?
your rating form sounds perfect! it is a score out of 10 for taste, appearance, timing and your hostessing abilities! good luck and thanks for participating 🙂

Hi Sue, this blog post has nothing to do with Come Dine With Me South Africa 🙂
So for December….. What are the quantitative criteria for scoring please? What would you reccommend?
Matthew
HI Matthew, I left the scoring criteria up to the guests really, but one needs to score on hostessing qualities, food presentation and timing 🙂
