Holly the Pointer cross
When we got Holly as a puppy, the rescue organisation thought she was a Fox Terrier. These are not my favourite breed of terriers, but she followed Dave around and he decided she was ours. At her first vet visit we were told she was a Pointer cross. She has all of the characteristics of this type of hound, and has grown up to be medium in size. Not quite the small lap dog I was looking for. Unlike pure bred Pointers, she is very much in need of human companionship, and sits with us every night while we watch TV. But, last night she stayed put in the scullery after she had her post dinner treat. I whistled for her to come to lie down, but she totally ignored me. Eventually however, she came to ‘call us’.
Little snakes
She waited for Dave to follow her into the scullery, and she then pointed at the washing machine. I knew straight away it had to be a snake so I took her to the lounge, holding her down with some force, while Dave moved the washing machine. Given that we live in an area where there are puffadders and Cape cobras, there is a risk in doing what Dave did. As I did not look at what it was, I am hoping it was just a mole snake. We get those frequently in the garden and are non-venomous. It may also have been a herald snake which also poses no threat. However, the risk existed that it was a juvenile cobra and Dave took the best course of action and killed it. Do you get snakes where you live?

Dogs are great, but I prefer big dogs…German Shepherd would be my first choice, then Border Collie. But very often it’s the dog who chose us, not other way around.
The chicken bake looks delicious!
We had Boxers which are about as large as I would like to get, and yes, they usually do choose us 🙂
Hi Tandy, this recipe sounds very nice. I have never come across a snake in Johannesburg but I’ve seen a few in kwa-Zulu Natal.
Some of the Natal snakes are deadly!
Yum, it looks perfect for our fall weather. Hearty, comforting, and delicious!
Thank you!
ooh that’s a bit scary about the cobra. We have beautiful carpet pythons here as well as the deadliest snakes in the world (so i understand). Cream cheese chicken sounds delightful!

I am not keen on the deadly ones being anywhere near the house, but luckily that seldom happens 🙂
