During hard lockdown we could not buy alcohol. Dave meant to get beers before this, but he forgot. So, wanting a quick bread and not having beer, I made cider bread.

We have an excellent consumer protection act in South Africa. However, a lot of retailers have found a way to work around it. The iStore states that you may not return an item if the packaging is open. And they will not open anything in store to make sure you are getting what you paid for. It makes me very reluctant to buy accessories from them. Last week I bought a new back cover for Dave’s phone. The day he came home with his iPhone he dropped it, and the back glass screen shattered. He has been using my cover, which I smashed a few years ago at gym. It has worn so badly that he has cut off the front part. And, he actually prefers it that way. The new cover I chose was a bit sturdier and completely black. Which is what I thought he would like.

I told the salesperson when I was paying that the box was open when I took it off the shelf. And she said it would not be an issue. I gave it to Dave when he got home and he thought it was too bulky. And I knew taking it back and asking for a credit might be an issue. But the day afterwards I was at Canal Walk, and decided to take a chance and see if they would refund me. And without any hassles they did. What a change from the attitude and service I have experienced in the past from Somerset Mall. The sales person was friendly. polite, and efficient. It would make spending money a pleasure if all staff could be so courteous. Do you have a good consumer protection act in your country, if you are not South African?

To a life well lived in 2020!
Consumer protection? 🤣It’s kind of hit and miss here. But it’s really appreciated by me when they’re kind and responsible. This bread sounds wonderful. I think I’d prefer it over beer bread!
Strange, one would think it would be good in America! This bread was sweeter than beer bread which is what I liked 🙂
Your cider bread turned out so beautifully. Baking a loaf of bread can be so therapeutic and relaxing!
And this one is so easy 🙂
This cider bread looks so delicious!
Thank you Josiah 🙂
I only drink cider, not bear.. I must try this..
enjoy! I also prefer cider 🙂
Bread looks fabulous Tandy! For my birthday, my sister re-furbished an old kitchen aid for me. (They are about $350-$400 new so out of my budget.) So now I am on a mission to bake more bread and actually use it! Yay.
Wow, what an amazing gift! I wish you well to use it 🙂
I think most of our stores have good return policies; it certainly seems like Amazon does…
That is good to know, not that I shop at Amazon.
I was afraid you were going to tell use they went back on their word and wouldn’t take it back. This was a much better ending. I feel like often protection is based on carefully picking your seller in the US. Love your bread. I am baking bread more to avoid shopping and can use some new ideas.
I am very wary of online sellers here as it is not the norm for us 🙂
